Vietnam and Laos are intensifying efforts to deepen their economic partnership, setting their sights on reaching $10 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. Officials from both countries described the target as challenging yet attainable, contingent on comprehensive efforts to facilitate commerce across their shared border.
To realize this objective, Hanoi and Vientiane are prioritizing the removal of trade barriers and modernization of border-trade mechanisms. Enhanced transportation and logistics infrastructure connecting the two nations is also central to the countries' strategy for expanding commercial ties. These initiatives align with broader efforts to strengthen the practical dimensions of Vietnam-Laos relations.
The push for deeper economic integration comes as Vietnam's relationships with both Laos and Cambodia continue to develop substantively and effectively, according to Vietnamese officials overseeing regional diplomacy. Vietnam's Deputy Foreign Minister underscored the strategic importance of these partnerships, while the Lao Ambassador to Vietnam outlined four key areas for advancing bilateral cooperation and realizing strategic cohesion between the neighboring nations.
Both governments view expanded trade and investment cooperation as mutually beneficial, with enhanced economic ties expected to support development goals across the region and strengthen the foundation of their strategic relationship.
