Vietnam, Laos to deepen defence and strategic cooperation ties

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Phan Van Giang held talks with his Lao counterpart General Khamlieng Outhakaysone in Vientiane on October 8, focusing on enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries.
The bilateral meeting reflects Vietnam and Laos's shared commitment to their established framework of great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation. The two nations have emphasised strategic cohesion as a cornerstone of their relationship, extending beyond traditional defence matters into broader economic and development sectors.
The discussions align with broader engagement between the two countries at the highest political levels. Vietnamese Prime Minister has also received delegations from Laos, including leaders of the Lao Front for National Construction and representatives of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Association, demonstrating sustained momentum in bilateral relations.
Vietnam and Laos, bound by historical ties and geographic proximity, have progressively expanded cooperation across defence, security, economic, and cultural domains. The October meeting adds to a consistent pattern of high-level military and political exchanges that have characterised their relationship in recent years.
