Vietnam, Laos to upgrade Huoi Puoc-Na Son border gate by 2027
The Huoi Puoc-Na Son crossing will be elevated to international status as part of strengthened cooperation between Vietnam's Dien Bien province and three northern Lao provinces. The upgrade follows a bilateral agreement signed in 2016 governing land border and gate management.

Vietnam and Laos are moving forward with plans to upgrade the Huoi Puoc-Na Son border gate to international status by 2027, marking a significant step in cross-border cooperation between the two countries. The initiative is grounded in the Agreement on Regulations on Management of Land Borders and Border Gates, signed by both governments on March 16, 2016.
The upgrade initiative reflects broader efforts by Dien Bien province in northern Vietnam to strengthen ties with three adjoining Lao provinces through enhanced administrative cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. Officials from both sides have been engaged in sharing management experience and coordinating on border-related matters to facilitate smoother cross-border movement and commerce.
The Huoi Puoc-Na Son gate currently serves as a local crossing point between the two nations. Its elevation to international status would expand its capacity to handle increased trade flows and facilitate formal bilateral commerce and travel.
The 2016 bilateral agreement established a comprehensive framework for managing shared land borders and optimizing border gate operations.
