Vietnam launches five-pronged approach to rein in inflation near 4.5%
Vietnamese authorities are implementing a comprehensive five-measure strategy to manage consumer price pressures, with the national steering committee directing businesses to lower prices when input costs decline. The measures come as inflation reached 4.57% in the first ten months of 2026.

Vietnam's price management authorities have activated five coordinated initiatives aimed at stabilizing consumer price index growth around the 4.5% target level. The Steering Committee on Price Management has directed provincial and local governments to conduct detailed analyses of inflation drivers by commodity and service category, enabling more targeted interventions in high-inflation areas.
As part of the broader strategy, authorities are requiring retailers and distributors to reduce selling prices proportionally when procurement costs decline. Recent government actions have already begun to show results, with Vietnam cutting average retail electricity prices by 2% effective November 1 and eliminating fuel taxes entirely, driving petrol prices down by up to 1,800 Vietnamese dong per litre.
Inflation has risen to 4.57% through the first ten months of 2026, prompting the multi-level approach. The five-measure framework addresses supply-side pressures while encouraging market-based price adjustments and regional price management tailored to local conditions. Officials indicated that localities experiencing elevated price growth will receive additional support and oversight to implement commodity-specific mitigation measures.
The coordinated initiative reflects the government's commitment to maintaining macroeconomic stability while supporting consumer purchasing power across key economic sectors.
