Vietnam launches marine economy forum to boost maritime cooperation

Vietnam has launched a marine economy forum designed to serve as a regular meeting point for stakeholders across the maritime industry. The platform brings together management agencies, local authorities, businesses, industry associations, research institutes, universities, and both domestic and international partners to coordinate efforts in advancing the sector.

The forum will facilitate training programs, consultancy services, knowledge transfer initiatives, and scientific and technological cooperation among participants. By creating structured channels for dialogue and collaboration, the initiative addresses gaps in coordination that have historically fragmented Vietnam's maritime development efforts.

United Nations Development Programme representatives have underscored the strategic importance of the forum, highlighting priorities Vietnam must address to establish itself as a strong maritime nation. Among these priorities is the development of energy infrastructure that can underpin sustainable marine economy growth and support the country's broader economic objectives.

The launch reflects Vietnam's strategic shift from simply developing its marine economy toward building comprehensive maritime capabilities. Officials view the forum as essential to achieving this transition by ensuring that diverse stakeholders—from government planners to private sector operators—work in concert to maximize the potential of Vietnam's extensive coastline and marine resources.
