Vietnam launches nationwide 2026 campaign to support impoverished communities

The Vietnam Fatherland Front's Central Committee has spearheaded the campaign, underscoring the critical need for sustained social welfare support as the country grapples with increasingly severe weather events. VFF Central Committee President Bui Thi Minh Hoai emphasized the encouraging response from communities, noting that collective action has proven essential in helping families affected by disasters rebuild their homes and restore economic stability.

The campaign reflects growing recognition of poverty's persistence across Vietnam, particularly in regions vulnerable to environmental shocks. Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long have already mobilized fundraising efforts to support local poor communities, demonstrating regional commitment to the national initiative.

Support for vulnerable populations has come from diverse sources, including domestic and international businesses, non-governmental organizations, and individual donors. These contributions have enabled affected families to recover livelihoods disrupted by flooding and natural disasters, facilitating their gradual return to economic self-sufficiency.

The campaign also highlights emerging strategies to combat poverty in remote areas, with digital transformation initiatives working to reduce information poverty in mountainous regions where access to resources and knowledge remains limited. Officials have urged continued cooperation from all sectors of society to ensure no communities are left behind in Vietnam's development trajectory.
