Vietnam lawmakers debate streamlined Land Law with simplified provisions

Lawmakers are currently discussing key provisions of the amended Land Law, focusing on land price tables and adjustment coefficients as core elements of the revision. The draft legislation streamlines the existing framework by reducing its scope to 13 chapters containing 112 articles, representing a substantial decrease from the previous 2024 Land Law which comprised 16 chapters and 260 articles.

Beyond land-related provisions, the legislative package includes broader reforms aimed at decentralizing management responsibilities for culture, sports, and tourism sectors. This approach represents a shift toward allowing provincial and local authorities greater autonomy in administering these key development areas.

The amended law also introduces significant changes to regulations governing human tissue and organ donation, with new provisions designed to strengthen protections for children's rights and interests throughout the donation process. These reforms reflect growing concerns about safeguarding vulnerable populations in healthcare-related legislation.

Senior legislators have emphasized the importance of balancing economic development with environmental protection during the revision process. Officials have warned against prioritizing short-term growth at the expense of long-term environmental sustainability, signaling that the amended law will incorporate stronger protections for natural resources and ecological considerations.
