During the second session of the 16th National Assembly, Deputy Tran Thi Nhi Ha from Hanoi raised concerns about the need for clear, transparent guidelines governing organ allocation in Vietnam's transplant system.
The lawmaker advocated for statutory criteria that would establish priority based on objective medical factors, including urgency of condition, tissue compatibility, expected treatment outcomes, and time spent on waiting lists. Such criteria would ensure equitable access to life-saving transplants regardless of patients' economic circumstances, ethnicity, religion, gender, or place of residence.
The appeal reflects growing attention to fairness and transparency in Vietnam's organ transplant sector, which has made significant advances in recent years. The country has strengthened its capacity for complex multi-organ and domino transplant procedures while expanding donation networks through hospital partnerships.
Vietnam's health authorities have previously emphasized the importance of increasing organ donor participation and improving the infrastructure supporting transplant programs. The establishment of clear allocation criteria would align with international best practices and strengthen public confidence in the transplant system.
