The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee formally announced the inaugural membership cohort of the Vietnam International Financial Centre (VIFC) on October 28, signaling the launch of a key initiative to position the city as a competitive financial destination in Southeast Asia. The announcement was made at the Autumn Economic Forum 2026, with Prime Minister Le Minh Hung present at the ceremony.
The establishment of VIFC represents Vietnam's strategic effort to attract international investment and develop financial services capabilities. Officials highlighted that the centre will offer diverse opportunities for foreign investors and financial institutions seeking to expand operations in the region, leveraging Ho Chi Minh City's status as the country's largest economic hub.
Experts have emphasized that legal transparency and robust regulatory frameworks will be essential to enhancing VIFC's appeal to international participants. Strengthening institutional frameworks and ensuring clear governance structures are viewed as critical factors in competing with established financial centres across Asia and attracting high-caliber financial firms and investment capital.
The initiative aligns with Vietnam's broader economic development goals and reflects efforts to modernize the financial sector while integrating more deeply into regional and global markets. The VIFC is expected to facilitate cross-border financial transactions, capital flows, and investment opportunities across Southeast Asia.
