Business chambers from Vietnam and Panama have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral economic ties, the agreement coming in the presence of Panama's President José Mulino. The accord between the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and Panama's Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture seeks to enhance trade and investment promotion programmes while supporting bilateral investment and commerce between the two countries.
Vietnamese legislative leadership has designated Panama as a key economic partner in Latin America, reflecting Hanoi's growing strategic focus on the wider region beyond its traditional Southeast Asian sphere. The positioning underscores Vietnam's intent to diversify its international economic relationships and expand market access across the Americas.
Panama's President has similarly characterized Vietnam as a leading important partner in Southeast Asia, indicating mutual recognition of economic complementarities and shared interests. The bilateral engagement comes as both nations seek to leverage their geographical advantages and economic strengths to foster closer commercial relationships.
The two countries issued a joint statement following their discussions, formalizing their commitment to enhanced cooperation across trade, investment, and business development. The memorandum provides a framework for sustained dialogue and collaboration between business communities in both nations, with particular focus on identifying sectors offering mutual growth opportunities.
