Vietnam plans dual renewable energy hubs to build complete sector value chain

Vietnam is moving to strengthen its renewable energy sector through the creation of two strategic industrial and service centres designed to support a complete value chain. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed establishing these inter-regional hubs in the northern and southern regions as part of broader efforts to implement the revised Power Development Plan VIII.

The initiative reflects Vietnam's commitment to developing renewable energy infrastructure at scale. By establishing dedicated industrial centres in both regions, policymakers aim to create interconnected ecosystems that can support manufacturing, research, workforce development, and service provision across the sector.

The dual-hub approach addresses the geographic and economic differences between Vietnam's north and south, allowing each centre to be tailored to regional advantages and energy demands. The centres are expected to facilitate the development of supply chains, attract investment, and create employment opportunities in the renewable energy industry.

The establishment of these facilities aligns with Vietnam's broader energy transition goals, which also include nuclear energy development and integration of flexible power sources into the national grid. Industry observers note that developing a robust value chain is essential for Vietnam to meet its growing energy needs while transitioning away from fossil fuel dependence.
