Vietnam will intensify its role in advancing United Nations objectives for global peace, international cooperation and sustainable development, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said on October 23. Speaking at a reception with the UN Resident Coordinator and leaders of UN agencies operating in the country, the premier underscored Hanoi's dedication to fulfilling its responsibilities within the international organization.
The commitment reflects Vietnam's long-standing engagement with the UN system, which the Southeast Asian nation joined nearly five decades ago. Over that period, Vietnamese military personnel have participated in multiple UN peacekeeping operations, contributing to conflict resolution and humanitarian efforts across various regions.
The reception, held ahead of October 24 UN Day, served as an occasion for senior Vietnamese officials to renew dialogue with key UN representatives on shared priorities. These include addressing regional security challenges, supporting sustainable development goals and strengthening multilateral cooperation mechanisms.
Vietnam's pledge to deepen UN involvement aligns with its broader foreign policy framework emphasizing active participation in regional and global governance structures. The country has increasingly sought to balance its role as a developing economy with contributions to collective international efforts addressing transnational issues.
