President To Lam of Vietnam, accompanied by his wife and senior government officials, arrived in Belgium for an official state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Bart De Wever. The trip underscores Hanoi's commitment to deepening relations with a European Union member state and reflects growing momentum in Vietnam-Belgium engagement.
The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for more than 50 years, establishing a foundation for cooperation spanning trade, investment, education and cultural exchange. Belgian officials and Vietnamese counterparts are expected to discuss expanded economic partnerships and explore new opportunities in key sectors during the visit.
The delegation-level discussions are poised to elevate the strategic dimension of Vietnam-Belgium ties at a time when both nations are navigating regional and global economic shifts. Officials said the visit aims to translate long-standing goodwill into concrete cooperation frameworks that benefit both economies and peoples.
Vietnam has been pursuing closer ties with European partners as part of its diversified foreign policy approach. Belgium, as an EU hub hosting major international institutions, offers Vietnam additional channels for economic engagement and political dialogue with the broader European community.
