Vietnam proposes dedicated bus lanes for airport access routes

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam has submitted a proposal to establish dedicated bus lanes on major thoroughfares serving the Long Thanh International Airport corridor in Ho Chi Minh City. The initiative seeks to address mounting congestion on routes connecting the city center to the airport, a critical concern for passengers and airport operations.

Under the proposal, designated lanes would be reserved exclusively for airport shuttle buses during peak travel periods, allowing services to bypass regular traffic congestion. Officials say the measure is designed to provide reliable travel times for passengers and ensure consistent airport shuttle schedules.

Long Thanh International Airport, which opened in January 2025, has become Vietnam's largest aviation hub, serving as the primary gateway for Ho Chi Minh City's domestic and international air traffic. As passenger volumes have grown, ground transportation has emerged as a key operational challenge, with roads connecting the airport to urban centers frequently experiencing severe delays.

The proposal represents one of several infrastructure measures being considered to improve access to the facility. Vietnamese authorities have emphasized the importance of efficient ground transportation in supporting the country's aviation expansion and tourism sector development.
