Vietnam's sepak takraw contingent claimed gold in the women's four-player team event at ASIAD 2026 on October 3, overcoming Thailand in a competitive final that ended 2-1. The result represents a successful title defense for the Vietnamese squad, which first captured gold in the same discipline at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
The women's sepak takraw team's gold is Vietnam's third of the Games so far. Earlier success came from boxer Nguyen Thi Tam, who secured silver, and the country's virtual taekwondo competitor, who also earned a silver medal. Vietnam's esports program added a bronze medal through its League of Legends team.
Sepak takraw, a Southeast Asian sport played with feet, knees, chest and head rather than hands, has been a notable strength for Vietnam at recent Asian Games. The sport's inclusion at ASIAD 2026 continues a tradition of showcasing regional athletic disciplines at the continental event.
