Ca Mau Province is implementing stricter controls over its fishing fleet as part of a broader strategy to eliminate illegal and unreported fishing practices that have drawn international scrutiny. The regional authorities have prioritized direct communication with local fishermen to build awareness of their legal obligations regarding catch reporting, vessel monitoring system (VMS) requirements, and adherence to fishing regulations.

The enhanced supervision campaign targets the root causes of IUU fishing violations by establishing clearer expectations for fleet operators. Through ongoing dialogue with the fishing community, provincial officials have worked to improve understanding of compliance requirements and the consequences of non-compliance.

The intensified effort comes as Vietnam seeks to address concerns from the European Commission, which issued a 'yellow card' warning over IUU fishing practices. Ca Mau's enforcement drive forms part of the country's broader initiative to strengthen fisheries management and demonstrate commitment to international standards for sustainable and lawful maritime resource extraction.

Authorities have also moved toward digitalization of fleet management systems to enhance monitoring capabilities and reduce opportunities for unreported fishing activities. The combination of improved communication, technological oversight, and stricter enforcement reflects a comprehensive approach to bringing the province's fishing sector into full compliance with national and international regulations.
