Vietnam's Deputy PM backs HKU Business School campus expansion plan

Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau welcomed the proposal during discussions focused on deepening educational partnerships between Vietnam and Hong Kong, underscoring the strategic importance of sustained academic cooperation in the region.

The Hong Kong University of Business School's plan to open a Vietnamese campus forms part of broader efforts to develop Hanoi as a global business education and research center. The initiative aligns with Vietnam's commitment to attracting world-class educational institutions and enhancing access to high-quality management and business training.

The proposed campus would strengthen the educational linkages between Vietnam and Hong Kong, contributing to Vietnam's goal of cultivating talent in business and technology sectors. Education officials have identified such partnerships as essential to developing a skilled workforce capable of supporting Vietnam's economic growth and integration into regional and global markets.

This development comes as Ho Chi Minh City and other Vietnamese cities seek to expand substantive cooperation with Hong Kong across multiple sectors, including financial services and higher education. Regional education initiatives are expected to play a central role in Vietnam's economic strategy ahead of APEC 2026, which Vietnam is positioned to host.
