The State Bank of Vietnam set the reference exchange rate at a lower level on October 15, marking a modest decline in the dollar's value against the local currency. The adjustment follows a 13-dong increase recorded the previous day and reflects the typical fluctuations seen in Vietnam's managed exchange rate system.
Under the current regulatory framework, the State Bank maintains a trading band of plus or minus 5 percent around the reference rate. This mechanism establishes operational boundaries for commercial banks conducting foreign exchange transactions throughout each business day.
With the band parameters in effect, commercial banks face a ceiling rate of 26,924 VND per US dollar and a floor rate of 24,360 VND per dollar during trading hours. These limits ensure orderly currency markets while allowing for market-driven price discovery within prescribed limits.
The exchange rate movement follows a decline of 8 dong at the start of the week, demonstrating the typical daily fluctuations characteristic of Vietnam's foreign exchange markets. The State Bank continues to balance its dual mandate of maintaining currency stability while permitting market responsiveness to economic fundamentals.
