Long Thanh International Airport will begin welcoming commercial flights on December 24, 2026, according to an official notice from the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) sent to the Dong Nai Province People's Committee. The midnight launch marks the completion of a major infrastructure project designed to ease congestion at existing regional airports and enhance connectivity across Southeast Asia.

The new airport, located in Dong Nai Province, is positioned to serve as a critical transportation hub for southern Vietnam and the broader Mekong Delta region. Officials have emphasized the facility's strategic importance for economic development and regional trade, with plans already underway to establish dedicated transportation links connecting the airport to major population centers.

Efforts to streamline access to Long Thanh have included proposals for traffic priority measures on airport connector routes. An expressway corridor project linking the Mekong Delta directly to the airport has been identified as essential infrastructure to maximize the facility's operational efficiency and economic impact.

The airport's opening represents a key element of Vietnam's long-term aviation strategy, aimed at modernizing its air transport network and supporting the country's continued economic growth.
