Vietnam's low-altitude economy poised to hit $500m by 2035

Vietnam is positioning itself to capitalize on the expanding low-altitude economy, with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) identified as a key growth engine for the emerging sector. The nation's rapidly developing drone industry is attracting interest from regional hubs and technology centers, which are actively promoting applications across commercial, industrial and logistics domains.

Ho Chi Minh City has emerged as a leading center for UAV advancement, with city authorities implementing initiatives to expand drone applications and build ecosystem support for companies operating in the space. Meanwhile, the northern province of Dien Bien has approved a regulatory sandbox dedicated to low-altitude economy development, creating a controlled environment for testing and scaling UAV operations.

Industry analysts project the low-altitude economy will grow by approximately 13 percent annually through the coming decade, fueled by rising demand for drone services in agriculture, infrastructure inspection, delivery logistics and emergency response. This expansion is expected to create new employment opportunities and attract foreign investment in technology and manufacturing sectors.

The government's strategic focus on UAV development reflects broader efforts to position Vietnam as a regional hub for advanced technologies. By establishing innovation zones and regulatory frameworks that support experimentation, policymakers aim to unlock the commercial potential of low-altitude airspace while maintaining safety standards.
