Vietnam's power transmission firm seeks $224m in loans for grid modernization

The state-owned enterprise is mobilizing credit facilities to support critical upgrades to Vietnam's high-voltage transmission system, with three flagship projects forming the cornerstone of the financing initiative.

The first project involves construction of a 220-kilovolt Ung Hoa substation along with associated connection lines, requiring an estimated 13.3 million euros. A second project centers on development of a 220-kilovolt Tan Viet substation and a 220-kilovolt transmission line linking Tan Viet, Gia Loc, and Pho Noi districts, carrying a budget of 18.6 million euros.

The third major undertaking concerns a 220-kilovolt substation designed to integrate the Dong Anh–Van Tri transmission line into the broader network, with estimated costs of 35.3 million euros. These infrastructure investments are intended to enhance system capacity and reliability across the transmission grid.

The loan financing underscores Vietnam's ongoing efforts to modernize its power infrastructure amid rising energy demand. Bank credit remains a primary funding mechanism for state utilities pursuing large-scale grid expansion projects across the Southeast Asian nation.
