Vietnam's reference exchange rate slides 8 VND as week begins

Vietnam's State Bank maintained its downward adjustment of the reference exchange rate, marking the latest in a series of declines that have characterized trading activity over recent days. The 8 VND drop at the week's opening follows decreases of 7 VND on October 7 and further softening on October 8 and 9.

Within the central bank's current trading band of plus or minus 5 percent, commercial banks face a ceiling rate of 26,902 VND per US dollar and a floor rate of 24,340 VND per US dollar for intraday transactions. This framework establishes the operational parameters within which Vietnam's banking sector conducts foreign exchange dealings.

The sustained depreciation of the reference rate reflects broader currency market dynamics affecting the Vietnamese dong. The sequential daily adjustments suggest sustained pressure on the domestic currency, though movements remain contained within the established trading corridor.

Market analysts continue monitoring the exchange rate trajectory as the central bank fine-tunes its monetary policy stance. The reference rate serves as a critical benchmark for commercial bank transactions and broader currency valuation across Vietnam's economy.
