To Lam held substantive discussions with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during the trip, according to statements released by Vietnamese officials. The meetings focused on strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and the EU across multiple sectors, with both sides expressing satisfaction with the trajectory of their relations.
The January elevation of Vietnam-EU ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership status served as a key backdrop for the discussions, reflecting the growing importance of the relationship for both parties. Officials highlighted the positive momentum achieved since the upgrade, signaling mutual commitment to expanded engagement.
Beyond official government meetings, To Lam's itinerary included interactions with Vietnamese intellectuals and diaspora communities in Belgium and Luxembourg. These engagements reflected efforts to strengthen people-to-people connections alongside state-level diplomacy.
Vietnam also pursued strengthened ties with the Workers' Party of Belgium during the visit, seeking to deepen political party-to-party relations as part of broader efforts to enhance cooperation across multiple dimensions.
