Vietnam's top leader strengthens EU ties with Denmark partnership deal

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam wrapped up official visits to Denmark, the European Union, and Belgium from October 19 to 24, highlighting Vietnam's growing diplomatic presence in Europe. The establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Denmark represents the most substantial advancement in their bilateral relationship since formal diplomatic relations began 55 years ago.

During his time in Copenhagen, To Lam held high-level discussions focused on expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges. The newly elevated partnership framework is expected to facilitate closer collaboration on regional and global issues of mutual concern.

The Vietnamese leader's simultaneous engagement with EU institutions and Belgian officials reflected Hanoi's broader strategy to strengthen ties with the bloc. These visits coincide with increased European interest in Southeast Asia and Vietnam's pivotal role in regional affairs, particularly amid shifting geopolitical dynamics in Asia-Pacific.

The European tour signals Vietnam's continued commitment to diversifying its international partnerships while maintaining strategic balance. Trade relationships, investment opportunities, and cooperation on sustainable development were among the key topics discussed during the official engagements across all three destinations.
