Vietnam seeks South Korea expertise on nuclear power, artificial intelligence

Vietnamese officials have called on South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources to share practical experience from its nuclear sector, signaling Hanoi's intent to accelerate its own atomic energy program.
The request centers on several key areas: institutional and policy frameworks that define the roles of policymaking and regulatory agencies; advanced nuclear power technology; strategies for developing a domestic nuclear supply chain; and long-term workforce development through specialized training, practical work experience and staff exchanges.
The initiative reflects Vietnam's broader strategy to strengthen bilateral ties with Seoul across strategic sectors. Cooperation in nuclear energy comes as Vietnam grapples with meeting growing electricity demand while pursuing climate commitments and diversifying its energy portfolio beyond coal and hydroelectric sources.
South Korea's nuclear expertise is widely regarded as among the most advanced in Asia. The country operates multiple reactors and has developed an established regulatory framework and industrial base supporting the sector, making it an attractive partner for Vietnam's capacity-building efforts.
