Vietnam's General Secretary and President Nguyen Van Tran held substantive discussions with Belgian leadership, including the Prime Minister and the King and Queen, during an official visit to Belgium. The meetings focused on strengthening the comprehensive partnership established between Hanoi and Brussels and charting new directions for bilateral engagement.

During the talks, Vietnam's top leader commended the Wallonia region's significant contributions to enhancing Vietnam-Belgium relations over recent years. Wallonia, Belgium's French-speaking southern region, has emerged as an important partner in promoting economic, cultural, and scientific exchanges with Vietnam.

Looking ahead, Vietnam's leadership proposed that the Belgian government, through its regional administrations including Wallonia, actively support the early elevation of Vietnam-Belgium ties to Strategic Partnership status. This designation would formalize and expand cooperation in areas including trade, investment, education, and technological innovation.

Belgian officials acknowledged the importance of the relationship and expressed willingness to explore expanded collaboration frameworks. Both sides emphasized the potential for enhanced economic integration, noting Vietnam's growing role in European trade networks and Belgium's position as a gateway to European markets.
