Vietnam seeks stronger links between agricultural research and farming practice

Northern Vietnam possesses substantial advantages in agricultural research infrastructure, including numerous institutes, universities and technology companies focused on rural development. Yet these resources have not translated effectively into tangible improvements for farmers, officials acknowledge.

The disconnect between research institutions and production represents a critical bottleneck in Vietnam's efforts to modernize its agricultural sector through scientific advancement. Technology transfer mechanisms remain underdeveloped, preventing innovations from reaching the farmers who could benefit most from them.

Government officials have highlighted the need to strengthen connections between the research community and practical farming operations. Addressing this gap is viewed as essential to unlocking the economic potential of Vietnam's agricultural sector, particularly in rural and mountainous areas where farming remains a primary livelihood.

Experts suggest that improved coordination between universities, research centers and agricultural enterprises could accelerate the adoption of modern farming techniques. Such collaboration would help bridge the current divide between scientific discovery and field-level implementation, ultimately enhancing productivity and competitiveness in Vietnam's farming communities.
