Vietnam shifts to precision marketing to strengthen global tourism position

Vietnam's tourism sector is undergoing a strategic shift toward more focused and intensive marketing initiatives as competition among regional destinations intensifies. Industry leaders say the traditional broad-based promotional approach is giving way to precision targeting that emphasizes Vietnam's unique strengths and appeals to specific market segments.

The move reflects recognition that sustained growth in international visitor arrivals requires deeper engagement with key markets and stronger collaboration between government bodies, tourism operators, and private sector partners. Officials are working to strengthen Vietnam's positioning as a premium destination while expanding geographic reach beyond traditional source markets.

The southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City is spearheading efforts to establish itself as a world-class megacity destination with comprehensive tourism infrastructure and cultural offerings. Simultaneously, other regions are developing specialized niches—Da Nang is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable green tourism, while northern provinces are promoting heritage experiences such as natural hot spring tourism to emerging markets including North Africa.

These regional initiatives demonstrate a broader strategy to present Vietnam as a diverse destination capable of serving varied traveler preferences, from urban tourism and adventure travel to wellness and cultural experiences. By leveraging regional strengths and coordinating messaging across international platforms, Vietnam aims to increase both visitor volume and spending during an era of heightened global competition for tourism revenue.
