Vietnam and Singapore are deepening their defence relationship, with high-level military officials emphasizing the strategic value of closer cooperation between the two Southeast Asian nations.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong, a senior member of Vietnam's military leadership and Chief of the VPA General Staff, noted that the two countries share fundamental strategic interests and significant potential for defence collaboration. He underscored their common commitment to maintaining peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
The enhanced defence partnership reflects broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties. Beyond military cooperation, Vietnam and Singapore have also been collaborating on personnel training programmes and exploring digital integration initiatives, including a digital ID linkage system that could serve as a model for ASEAN interoperability.
Economic ties have also expanded considerably, with bilateral trade surging 46.8 percent in the first nine months of the year, indicating robust growth across multiple sectors. This combination of defence, security and economic cooperation underscores the deepening strategic relationship between Hanoi and Singapore.
