Vietnam strengthens role in shaping global cultural heritage standards

Vietnam is increasingly establishing itself as a significant player in shaping international standards for cultural heritage preservation and authenticity, according to UNESCO officials working in the region.

The Asia-Pacific Dialogue on Heritage and Authenticity, held recently in Vietnam, exemplified the country's commitment to advancing global cultural agendas, said Jonathan Wallace Baker, UNESCO Representative to Vietnam. The dialogue brought together regional stakeholders to discuss pressing issues in heritage conservation and cultural authenticity across the Asia-Pacific region.

Vietnam's contributions extend beyond hosting international forums. The country has actively participated in drafting key policy documents, including the Hanoi Document, which affirms Vietnam's role in establishing international heritage standards. Senior government officials, including the Deputy Foreign Minister, have underscored the nation's commitment to these initiatives.

The Vietnamese government has also demonstrated its dedication through concrete action, with top leaders attending ground-breaking ceremonies for major heritage restoration projects, including the restoration of Kinh Thien Palace. Meanwhile, digital transformation initiatives are making cultural heritage more accessible to the general public, bridging the gap between preservation efforts and public engagement.

These efforts reflect Vietnam's broader strategy to leverage its rich cultural legacy while contributing meaningfully to international discussions on heritage conservation and authenticity in the digital age.
