Vietnam surges in global tourism competitiveness rankings

Vietnam's improved standing reflects strengthening momentum in tourism development across the region's second-largest economy. The 6.1 percentage point gain represents the strongest performance among major Southeast Asian destinations, signalling competitive advances in infrastructure, services and destination appeal.

Within Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranked fifth overall, trailing Singapore (13th), Indonesia (23rd), Malaysia (26th) and Thailand (38th). However, Vietnam's rate of improvement exceeded all four competitors, suggesting the nation is narrowing gaps with more established tourism markets in the region.

The WEF index measures 34 indicators across five categories: enabling environment, travel and tourism policy and enabling conditions, infrastructure, natural and cultural resources, and competitiveness of the travel and tourism industry. Vietnam's advancement reflects ongoing investment in these areas as the country seeks to capitalise on growing regional tourism demand.

The ranking upgrade positions Vietnam favourably among developing economies pursuing tourism-led growth strategies. As international travel patterns continue to evolve in Asia, the country's competitive gains suggest potential for further market share expansion within the region's dynamic tourism sector.
