Vietnam and Switzerland are moving to strengthen their parliamentary relationship through enhanced cooperation on lawmaking and policy development, according to proposals made by National Assembly Vice President Nguyen Thi Thanh. The two countries have identified several avenues for deepening ties, including increased exchanges between parliamentary delegations and collaborative efforts to share legislative expertise and experience in areas of mutual interest. Switzerland has identified Vietnam as a priority partner in Southeast Asia, positioning the country as an important anchor for its regional engagement strategy. The proposed cooperation framework includes coordinated action within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF), and other multilateral parliamentary bodies where both nations maintain membership. Hanoi has also emphasized the importance of leveraging Vietnamese expertise based in Switzerland to contribute to the country's science and technology development goals. The diplomatic initiative reflects both nations' commitment to advancing their long-standing relationship while establishing concrete mechanisms for sustained parliamentary engagement and policy coordination.
