Vietnam targets mobile signal gaps affecting 273 rural villages

The Ministry of Science and Technology has identified 273 villages lacking adequate mobile signal coverage and is moving forward with plans to address the connectivity gaps. The project aims to ensure that remote communities across the country gain access to reliable mobile telecommunications services, a critical factor for economic development and social services delivery in rural areas.
The connectivity initiative is part of a larger science and technology strategy being rolled out this October. The ministry plans to establish a network of national key research and testing centres and laboratories designed to strengthen the country's scientific infrastructure and technological capabilities.
Vietnam's digital landscape has expanded significantly in recent years, with the country now recording 110.5 million mobile internet subscriptions. However, geographic disparities in coverage remain a challenge, particularly in remote and mountainous regions where infrastructure development costs are substantial.
The government is also advancing related digital economy initiatives, including Resolution 57 focused on marine economic development and efforts to unlock Vietnam's wind power potential. These interconnected programmes reflect a broader strategy to leverage technology and sustainable energy as drivers of economic growth across diverse sectors and regions.
