Vietnam's tourism sector has gained international recognition for its safety record and diverse cultural experiences, but the country has yet to capitalize fully on retail tourism opportunities that could boost revenues and visitor numbers.

Industry analysts point to the gap between Vietnam's rising appeal as a tourist destination and its underdeveloped shopping and entertainment infrastructure. The country's recent climb to 52nd place in the World Economic Forum's tourism index reflects growing international interest, but tourism officials acknowledge that maximizing this momentum requires targeted investment in retail experiences.

Experts recommend a multi-faceted approach to enhance shopping tourism, including diversifying dining and entertainment services alongside improved retail offerings. These enhancements would encourage international visitors to extend their stays and increase daily spending within the country.

Currently, shopping represents a limited component of most tourist itineraries in Vietnam. Tourism authorities are examining how neighboring destinations have successfully integrated retail and leisure experiences to attract higher-spending visitors, with plans to develop similar offerings across major tourist centers.
