Vietnam is positioning its 2027 APEC presidency as a platform to champion environmentally sustainable agriculture across the Asia-Pacific economic bloc. The initiative reflects growing regional concerns about balancing food production with environmental protection amid climate change pressures.
The Vietnamese government has outlined plans to collaborate with the APEC Secretariat on a dedicated policy dialogue examining innovation in the rice sector, a staple commodity for much of Asia. This discussion will be complemented by a workshop on public-private partnerships designed to scale up regenerative agriculture practices, to be held alongside the first APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM1).
These events will create space for APEC member economies to exchange lessons learned and practical experience in adopting low-emission and environmentally conscious farming methods. The initiatives align with broader regional commitments to enhance food security while reducing agriculture's carbon footprint.
As one of the world's largest rice producers and exporters, Vietnam brings significant expertise to the conversation around sustainable grain production. The 2027 agenda underscores Hanoi's commitment to positioning the region as a leader in green agricultural innovation and climate-smart farming solutions.
