Vietnam, Uruguay deepen parliamentary ties amid broader cooperation drive

Senator Sebastian Da Silva, Chair of Uruguay's Senate Committee on International Affairs, has committed the Uruguay–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group to advancing bilateral ties across multiple sectors. The group will focus on promoting inter-parliamentary dialogue while working to consolidate existing bonds of solidarity and friendship between the South American and Southeast Asian nations.

Vietnam's Foreign Ministry has emphasized the country's commitment to the traditional friendship shared with Uruguay, with officials highlighting opportunities to deepen economic, trade and investment cooperation. The two nations have identified mutual benefits in expanding commercial ties and exploring new areas for collaborative growth.

Efforts to strengthen bilateral relations extend beyond the parliamentary level, with the Communist Party of Uruguay also increasing engagement with Vietnam. These multifaceted initiatives reflect both countries' interest in broadening their partnership across political, economic and cultural spheres.

The developments underscore Vietnam's broader strategy to enhance regional and global partnerships, while Uruguay continues to pursue expanded ties with Asian economies. Officials from both nations have indicated that sustained dialogue and cooperation mechanisms will be essential to realizing the full potential of their bilateral relationship.
