Vietnam, US chart course for expanded tech investment and trade

Vietnam's government has signaled its commitment to expanding economic cooperation with the United States, with officials emphasizing the relationship has entered a dynamic new phase more than three years after the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc told participants at a summit that economic ties between the two countries have entered a new era of growth, underscoring Vietnam's intention to position the US among its leading strategic partners. The remarks come as both nations work to deepen commercial engagement across multiple sectors.

Vietnam is actively encouraging greater participation from American businesses in activities surrounding its chairmanship of APEC in 2027, signaling an effort to integrate US firms into regional economic initiatives. Officials are also advancing reciprocal trade agreement discussions with Washington, seeking to establish clearer frameworks for bilateral commerce.

The push for expanded ties reflects Vietnam's broader strategy to diversify its economic partnerships while attracting foreign investment in high-technology sectors. As the two countries work to formalize their growing relationship, trade and investment negotiations are expected to accelerate in the coming months.
