Vietnam's efforts to strengthen its intellectual property legal framework have drawn recognition from the US Motion Picture Association, which oversees major Hollywood studios and digital content producers. The association said it welcomes recent improvements to Vietnam's IP protection mechanisms and enforcement actions against violations, viewing them as steps toward creating a more attractive environment for foreign entertainment companies.
The MPA indicated its willingness to deepen collaboration with Vietnamese counterparts, offering to share expertise and technical assistance in bolstering intellectual property safeguards. Such cooperation would support Vietnam's broader goal of establishing itself as a reliable destination for international media and entertainment investment.
The development aligns with Vietnam's push to attract greater US business participation across sectors, including during the country's APEC chairmanship in 2027. Simultaneously, both nations are advancing discussions on a reciprocal trade agreement and expanding investment and financial cooperation frameworks.
Strengthening IP protections has become increasingly important as Vietnam seeks to position itself as a regional hub for digital content creation and technology services. The collaboration signals mutual interest in addressing piracy and counterfeit production, issues that have historically hindered foreign media investment in Southeast Asia.
