With two-way trade between Vietnam and Australia reaching nearly $10 billion in the first seven months of 2026, business leaders are being advised to compete on product quality rather than price as they expand their footprint in the affluent Australian market.

Vietnam's exports to Australia have surged 30 percent year-on-year, according to official figures, reflecting growing demand across multiple sectors. Two-way trade totaled $9.79 billion in the January-July period, representing a 20 percent increase compared to the same timeframe in 2025.
Australian consumers and industrial buyers have demonstrated strong purchasing power and diverse consumption patterns, creating opportunities for Vietnamese suppliers across numerous product categories. Key sectors include machinery and industrial equipment, textiles and footwear, wood products, agricultural goods, seafood, and processed food items.
Business advisors recommend that Vietnamese exporters differentiate themselves through superior product quality and value-added offerings rather than competing solely on cost. This strategic approach aligns with Australia's developed-market characteristics and consumer preferences for reliability and durability.
The commercial expansion reflects broader improvements in Vietnam-Australia relations, including enhanced parliamentary exchanges and the deepening of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations. Economic cooperation is expected to expand further as bilateral ties strengthen.
