Language proficiency and cultural engagement are playing an increasingly vital role in deepening people-to-people connections between Vietnam and Japan, according to academic experts. Professor Masaaki Shimizu of Osaka University emphasized that young Japanese learners of Vietnamese gain valuable insights into Vietnamese culture through daily language use and cultural experiences, helping them develop a more profound appreciation of their own heritage while simultaneously building bridges between the two nations.
The educational and cultural exchanges are taking place amid intensified high-level diplomatic engagement. Japan's Foreign Minister has underscored the importance of a recent visit by a top Vietnamese leader, signaling Tokyo's commitment to elevating bilateral relations. Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam similarly stressed Japan's recognition of the strategic significance of the visit.
According to the Ambassador, the Vietnamese leader's visit is expected to unlock new areas of cooperation between the two countries. Language and cultural diplomacy are viewed as complementary to these official channels, fostering the mutual understanding necessary for sustained partnership.
Experts note that when young people from both nations engage with each other's languages and cultures, they become effective informal ambassadors. This grassroots cultural exchange reinforces official diplomatic efforts and creates a solid foundation for long-term cooperation in trade, investment, and regional security matters.
