Vijay's TVK disavows West Bengal unit, extends goodwill

The Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), the political party led by Tamil actor Vijay, has clarified that it has no organisational connection with a political unit claiming the TVK name in West Bengal. In a statement responding to reports of TVK activities in the eastern state, the party said the West Bengal unit operates independently and is not part of its official structure. Despite the separation, the party extended its best wishes to the group, indicating no hostility toward the initiative. The clarification comes as TVK, which was launched in 2023 and contested its first elections in Tamil Nadu earlier this year, continues to establish its presence across southern India. The party has maintained a primarily regional focus, concentrating its political activities in Tamil Nadu and select neighbouring areas. The West Bengal development underscores the challenges faced by emerging political outfits in managing their brand identity as their popularity spreads beyond their core operational areas.
