Village chief gunned down in Sultan Kudarat shooting

COTABATO CITY — Bernaned Acosta Barua, chairperson of Barangay Bannawag in President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat, was shot dead during an attack at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday, according to local police reports.
Two unidentified suspects carried out the shooting, with one of them opening fire on the village leader. Police have launched an investigation into the incident but have not yet identified the assailants or established a motive for the killing.
The incident adds to a series of violent attacks targeting local government officials in the Bangsamoro region. The Philippine National Police said they are pursuing leads to identify those responsible for Barua's death and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
