Villagers in Gandiborg Songona, a settlement in South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, apprehended a Bangladeshi national who had unlawfully entered Indian territory on Wednesday. The detainee was subsequently turned over to Gasuapara Police Station for further investigation and processing.
According to preliminary reports, the individual had crossed the international border with alleged criminal intent, reportedly accompanying others in a group suspected of planning burglary and dacoity operations. The circumstances surrounding the attempted incursion remain under investigation by local law enforcement.
Authorities said the remaining members of the group managed to flee the scene before police intervention. The apprehended individual is being interrogated to determine the identities and whereabouts of his associates and to establish the precise nature of the intended criminal activity.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns over border security along the India-Bangladesh frontier in the Northeast. South Garo Hills, which shares a lengthy border with Bangladesh, has witnessed periodic reports of unauthorized cross-border movement and criminal activity in recent years.
