Sporadic violence disrupted voting in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa district on Wednesday as cadres of the YSR Congress Party and Telugu Desam Party clashed in several locations. Confrontations were reported in Yerripalli, R. Thummalapalli, and Parnapalli villages in the Pulivendla assembly segment, with both groups reportedly attacking each other during the polling process.
The incidents came as voters turned out for the local body elections, one of the key electoral contests in the state. While election officials attempted to maintain order, the recurring clashes reflected the intense political rivalry between the two parties in the region.
No immediate reports of mass casualties were available, though the violence raised concerns about the overall conduct of the polling process. Authorities deployed additional security personnel to contain the situation and prevent further escalation. Election officials said they were investigating the incidents and ensuring that voting could continue smoothly in the affected areas.
The clashes underscore the volatile political atmosphere in parts of Andhra Pradesh, where local body elections have frequently become flashpoints for inter-party tensions. State election authorities are expected to issue a formal statement regarding the incidents and any action taken against those involved.
