Visakhapatnam Port Authority has expanded its air quality monitoring infrastructure with the installation of three new stations under an environmental improvement programme worth ₹6.54 crore. The initiative aims to enhance transparency regarding air quality conditions at the port facility and surrounding areas.
According to the port's Deputy Chairperson, LED display boards have been installed at Port Stadium, Harbour Park, and the Naval Dockyard to showcase real-time air quality data to the public. These installations will enable port staff, visitors, and residents in the vicinity to monitor pollution levels throughout the day.
The expansion of monitoring capabilities reflects growing concerns about air quality in major port cities across India. The Visakhapatnam facility, one of the country's busiest ports, handles substantial cargo volumes that can impact local air quality through increased vehicular and vessel movements.
