Visayas power grid faces critical alerts Wednesday as supply constraints persist

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has announced that the Visayas electrical grid will operate under heightened alert status on Wednesday, Oct. 28, reflecting ongoing capacity constraints in the region's power supply.

According to an NGCP advisory, a red alert—indicating the most critical supply conditions—will be in effect from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by yellow alert periods at other times during the day. Red alerts signify that available power reserves have fallen to minimal levels, while yellow alerts indicate tighter-than-normal operating conditions.

The recurring alerts in the Visayas reflect broader challenges facing the Philippines' power generation capacity, particularly during peak demand hours. The NGCP regularly issues such advisories to prepare consumers and businesses for potential supply constraints and to coordinate demand-side management efforts.

Residents and businesses in the affected region are advised to prepare for possible rotating outages or reduced power supply during the alert periods. The NGCP continues to work on medium and long-term solutions to address generation and transmission capacity issues across the country's major grids.
