Visayas power grid faces fresh red, yellow alerts Tuesday

The Visayas grid will operate under red and yellow alerts on Tuesday, Oct. 27, as power generation falls short of regional demand, according to an advisory from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

Red alert status, indicating the most critical supply conditions, is scheduled to take effect from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., while yellow alert protocols will also be in place during portions of the day. Red alerts signal that available power reserves have dropped to critically low levels, requiring immediate demand management measures.

The repeated alerts reflect ongoing challenges in the Visayas power system, which serves millions of residents across central Philippine islands. The NGCP typically implements rotating brownouts and appeals for voluntary power conservation during such alerts to prevent widespread blackouts.

The corporation did not immediately specify which municipalities or areas might be affected by potential rotating outages, though consumers in the Visayas region are advised to prepare for possible service interruptions during alert periods.
