Visayas power grid placed under yellow alert Saturday

The Visayas electrical grid will operate under yellow alert status beginning Saturday late afternoon, according to an advisory from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). The alert is scheduled to take effect from 5 p.m. onwards as the region faces elevated power demand during the evening period.

A yellow alert indicates that power reserves are tightening, requiring grid operators to monitor system conditions more closely. While the grid remains stable under such conditions, the alert serves as an early warning that additional measures may be necessary if demand continues to rise or if supply constraints worsen.

The NGCP's advisory comes amid broader concerns about power adequacy across the country's electrical systems. The corporation has previously warned that certain regions, including Mindanao, may face reserve capacity challenges in coming years if additional generation capacity is not developed.
