VisionSpring convenes partners to improve road safety across region

VisionSpring has organised a stakeholder meeting to coordinate efforts toward improving road safety through enhanced vision care initiatives across the region. The gathering brought together partners from government agencies, healthcare providers, and road safety organisations to develop a comprehensive strategy addressing preventable accidents caused by uncorrected vision problems.

Road accidents remain a leading cause of injury and death in South and Southeast Asia, with vision impairment identified as a significant contributing factor. The initiative recognises that accessible eye care services and vision correction programmes can substantially reduce accident rates by ensuring drivers and road users have adequate eyesight.

Participants at the meeting discussed implementing screening programmes, improving access to affordable eyeglasses, and integrating vision health into road safety education. The collaborative approach aims to create a coordinated framework that addresses gaps in eye care delivery while simultaneously strengthening road safety infrastructure across participating countries.

Stakeholders emphasised the need for data-driven interventions and sustainable funding mechanisms to ensure long-term viability of the initiative. By combining expertise from the vision care and road safety sectors, partners seek to develop evidence-based policies that can be scaled across the region and adapted to local contexts.
