Vizag MP expects turnaround at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant
The Visakhapatnam MP has expressed optimism about the revival prospects of the state-run steel facility following a ₹14,000-crore modernisation initiative. The lawmaker has also sought to expedite employee transfers and push infrastructure development at the plant.

Visakhapatnam MP Sribharat has signalled confidence that the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) will emerge profitable once the ongoing revival package translates into operational gains. The lawmaker made the remarks after engaging with the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) CMD, as the state-run steelmaker pursues its ambitious ₹14,000-crore modernisation and capacity expansion programme.
Sribharat underscored that the substantial capital investment would yield tangible results once the plant returns to profitability, though he did not specify a timeline for the turnaround.
The MP also took up matters affecting the plant's workforce during his visit. He engaged with the General Manager of South Coast Railway (SCoR) regarding pending transfer requests from employees stationed at the Rayagada Division and those working at the Duvvada halt facility.
The Duvvada halt has become a focal point for VSP operations following the allocation of services on the Vande Bharat train route, highlighting the interconnected logistics and manpower challenges facing the steel facility as it navigates its modernisation trajectory.
